چکیده

We investigate the occurrence of two pathological coevolutionary behaviours, specifically disengagement and cycling, in GP systems. An empirical analysis is carried out using constructed GP problems and a historical pursuit and evasion task, the Game of Tag. The effect of semantic bias on the likelihood of pathologies and performance in a coevolutionary context is examined. We present findings correlating semantic locality in the genotype to phenotype map to disengagement and cycling in a minimal competitive coevolutionary algorithm.

The Effects of Representational Bias on Collaboration Methods in Cooperative Coevolution

Cooperative coevolutionary algorithms (CCEAs) have been applied to many optimization problems with varied success. Recent empirical studies have shown that choices surrounding methods of collaboration may have a strong impact on the success of the algorithm. Moreover, certain properties of the problem landscape, such as variable interaction, greatly influence how these choices should be made. A...

Social and semantic coevolution in knowledge networks

Socio-semantic networks involve agents creating and processing information: communities of scientists, software developers, wiki contributors and webloggers are, among others, examples of such knowledge networks. We aim at demonstrating that the dynamics of these communities can be adequately described as the coevolution of a social and a socio-semantic network. More precisely, we will first in...

Relevant Rule Derivation for Semantic Query Optimization

Semantic query optimization in database systems has many advantages over the conventional query optimization. The success of semantic query optimization will depend on the set of relevant semantic rules available for semantic query optimizer. The semantic query optimizer utilizes a set of available semantic rules to further explore extra query optimization plans for conventional query optimizer...

Warning signals and predator-prey coevolution.

Theories of the evolution of warning signals are typically expressed using analytic and computational models, most of which attribute aspects of predator psychology as the key factors facilitating the evolution of warning signals. Sherratt provides a novel and promising perspective with a model that considers the coevolution of predator and prey populations, showing how predators may develop a ...
